Terms & Conditions

    a) This Competition is jointly organised by Speech Academy Asia and Times Experience, a subsidiary of Times Publishing Limited (“Organisers”).
    b) This Competition serves as a public speaking platform to equip the young with relevant entrepreneurial and life skills essential for their higher education and professional life.
    c) The Competition aims to inculcate in the participants the “Three C’s Mindset”. COMMUNICATION: Allowing them to learn the importance of good speaking skills and experience the power of a well-delivered speech. CONFIDENCE: Building their confidence in public speaking as they progress in the competition. CREATIVITY: Stimulating their creative thinking process as they learn to express themselves during their competition journey.

    a) To join the Competition, the participant must:
       i) currently be a primary school student (or an equivalent grade as stated in the reference table below) residing in Singapore.
       ii) have the permission of a parent or guardian.
    b) Students from international schools in Singapore may participate. The competition category will be based on an equivalent education level as per the reference table below: -

    There are three categories* in this Competition:
    i) Category A:      Primary 1 and 2
    ii) Category B:     Primary 3 and 4
    iii) Category C:    Primary 5 and 6
    *Refer to table in point no. 2 for corresponding education level.

    a) The registration period to enter the Competition is from 30 March 2018 to 11 May 2018.
    b) Early bird registration closes on 29 April 2018.
    c) Registration can only be submitted online through www.happysparks.com/speakitsparkies2018.

    For the registration to be valid:
    a) The registration form must be completed in full, including name of participant, contact details and all other required information.
    b) Payment of registration fee must be made in full during registration.
    c) The parent/guardian must have a Times Connect account to proceed with the above registration steps.

    a) Registration fee for each participant is
       i) $15 (early bird: register before 29 April 2018), or
       ii) $20 (normal: register from 30 April to 11 May 2018).
    b) Times Privilege members enjoy a special rate of $10 (early bird) or $15 (normal).
    c) Payment of registration fees is to be made online through the registration website via credit card.
    d) All fees are quoted in Singapore Dollars and are inclusive of 7% GST.
    e) Payment of registration fees is non-refundable.

    a) A complimentary workshop (worth $120) on public speaking will be available to participants of the competition on a first-come first-served basis.
    b) At the 2-hour workshop provided by Speech Academy Asia, participants will pick up the essentials of public speaking and learn to be more confident presenters on stage.
    c) The workshops are scheduled to take place on 28 and 29 May 2018 at Times Centre, 1 New Industrial Road, Singapore 536196. Participants will only be allowed to attend the workshop on either date.

    a) After the workshop, the top 20 in each category will be selected for the Semi- Finals, and will be informed via phone or email by 31 May 2018.
    b) The Semi-Finals will be held on 2 June 2018 at Speech Academy Asia’s Shaw Tower Branch, where the participants will deliver their prepared speech to a panel of judges.

    a) At the Semi-Finals, the top 8 in each category will be selected to proceed for the Finals, and will be informed via phone or email by 8 June 2018.
    b) The Finals will be held on 23 June 2018 at Our Tampines Hub, 1 Tampines Walk, Singapore 528523 as part of the Happy Sparks event organised by Times Experience.
    c) Finalists will present their speeches in front of a live audience to vie for the top spot in their respective categories. Each finalist will be required to give a prepared speech (4-minute), as well as an impromptu speech (3-minute) based on a topic given by the Organisers.
    d) The decision of the judges for the Competition will be final and no correspondence will be entertained.

    a) The participants’ speeches must not include the following content:
       i) Any material deemed offensive, crude, or inappropriate for the purpose of the Competition.
       ii) Any material that is plagiarised or infringes the intellectual property of any third party.
    b) Participants who do not comply with the above will be disqualified.

    a) Photographs and videos of participants may be taken at various stages of the Competition and workshops. By entering the Competition, participants have given their consent to be featured in these photos and videos which may be used for marketing purposes by the Organisers.
    b) By entering the Competition, participants agree that the content of their speeches may be used and reproduced in any form by the Organisers.

    a) The winner for each category will receive a certificate and prizes from our kind sponsors.
    b) The Organisers reserve the right to abandon or withdraw any aspect of the prizes at any time.
    c) All prizes are not transferable or exchangeable for cash or otherwise. If for any reason any prize becomes unavailable, the Organisers may substitute an alternative prize of equivalent value without notice.
    d) By claiming the prizes, all winners give consent to the Organisers to use their names, photographs and videos for publicity purposes.

    a) The personal information provided to enter this Competition will be held by the Organisers and will be used for the purposes of administering the Competition.
    b) By providing the Organisers with their personal data, all participants agree that the Organisers may collect, use and disclose their personal data for purposes in accordance with the Privacy Policy and the Personal Data Protection Act 2012.
    c) The Organisers reserve the right to contact participants and associated persons using information obtained in relation to the operations of the Competition.
    d) By entering the competition, participants consent to the use of their personal data by Times Publishing Limited and its subsidiaries (including Times Experience and Times The Bookshop) as well as Speech Academy Asia for marketing and promotional purposes.

    a) The Organisers shall not be liable for any loss, damage, personal injury or death whatsoever (including but not limited to indirect or consequential loss) which is suffered or sustained arising out of or in connection with the Competition and the taking or using of the prizes.
    b) Where goods or services are supplied by third parties, the Organisers shall not warrant the quality of those goods and/or services or the suitability for your particular circumstances.

  15. OTHERS
    a) The Organisers’ decisions on all matters regarding the Competition are final and no correspondence will be entertained.
    b) The Organisers reserve the right to extend, cancel or amend the Competition or any component of the Competition at any time.
    c) Information on how to enter and the prizes to be won forms part of these Terms and Conditions. Entry into the Competition constitutes acceptance of these Terms and Conditions.
    d) The judges’ decision is final, and no correspondence will be entertained.
    e) Participants who breach these Terms and Conditions are subject to disqualification.
